The Two Minute Rule: Planner Tip

I was speaking to one of the ladies on my team at work about time blocking and how she is incorporating the practice during her work day, she referred to herself has time optimistic. She always believes that she has enough time.

How easy is it to fall into that trap. Believing that you have enough time.

I love using time blocking because it allows you to plan out your day, it gives you a realistic view of your actual time, so you don't have depend on how much time you feel like you have left.

But you cannot plan a perfect day, especially if you are in a position where people come to you for anything. Unless you can close your office door, and isolate your self from everyone, there is no way you can work uninterrupted.

How do you know when to stop?

One useful planning tip is utilizing the "two-minute rule" when managing your tasks.

The two-minute rule, popularized by productivity expert David Allen in his book "Getting Things Done," suggests that if a task takes less than two minutes to complete, you should do it immediately rather than adding it to your to-do list.

Applying the Two - Minute Rule to your work day will allow you to get minor task accomplished quickly, without taking too much time away from your main focus and preventing your To Do List from getting crazy long.

Any task that comes up that will take longer than two minutes, gets added to the To Do List, and assigned a time block to complete, either that day or the next, depending on the priority.

Remember, no one is following your schedule but you; so we cannot always plan the day to the tea, but we can plan a way to maximize our time to the fullest.
