How Does Your Brain Work?
When I finally sat down with Tasha Kinney from Undeniably_TK_Designs (@Undeniably_TK_Designs on Instagram) to discuss my custom planner, her first question to me was, "How does your brain work?"
Well, it don't.
And that, in short, is why I started planning in the first place. I need my planner to do what my brain sometimes cant.
At work, I want to best maximize my time, my brain dances all around, jumps from place to place, get lost in emotions, goes on tangents and sometimes, just wears itself out. So, time easily gets away from me and now I have to finish work at home. My planner needs to step in at this point. I need to better utilize my time, prioritize task, chunk time to increase focus, allow myself breaks through out the day - to be the most productive during the day.
A simple task list doesn't work for me, I will see the list and think, "Oh, I got plenty of time." Three blinks later its, 2:30 and I've only done task number one. Lost. The solution, a hourly daily layout, so I can not only assign myself task, but set aside a designated time to work on the task. I can also assign myself breaks, lunch, downtime.
Three things need to happen.
1. List of important task and deadlines = Big Rocks
2. List of all the small task that creates my Big Rocks = Little Rocks
3. Time period to tackle little rocks
Top Priorities for the Big Rocks. To Do for the Little Rocks. Hourly list for the time that I assigning each task. And lastly, a space for the most difficult task of the day, decided what's for dinner. That will be a post for later.
The hardest part about choosing a planner, is finding the right one for you. Think of your planner as a tool that works both with you, and FOR you. So, how does your brain work?
