Be a Mousetrap
Going digital has been a journey for me, the transition from my traditional paper planner to the digital one, rocked my world.
Keep in mind, I have been dedicated to a paper planner for over ten years now, so this was truly a switch, and even with the little hiccups along the way, the ease and convince of going digital has made me a fan.
Even though I highly recommend everyone to try a digital planner, I understand that it might not be your cup of tea. That’s okay, you have to find what works best for you, doesn’t matter how great the planner is, if you do not use it, it’s worthless.
Regardless of what method of planner you land on, the number one thing, is to start.
When I first decided to switch over, I immediately went to Amazon and started filling up my cart. I went to Etsy and filled up that cart. I upgrade my iPad, got a new case, new accessories, a pen - two pens. I made sure I had all the things before I even had an understanding of what I was doing or how this app even worked.
None of that was helpful.
When I taught my girls to serve a volleyball for the first time, I started with the question: Which one is most likely to have problems; a spaceship or a mousetrap?
A spaceship - too many parts.
That can apply here as well, having everything at once, can get complicated. Too many parts, too many pens, too many devices. If you are just starting, and you don't really know what you need or what will work best, be simple.
Use what you have.
That will give you a better understand of what you actually need. Give yourself time to assess your needs, see what's missing, and what will benefit you the most.
Being completely honest, I download a lot of sticker packs that I probably won't actual use. At first glance, they looked like something I needed, but once I found my groove, I quickly learned, I didn't.
Sometimes we have to remind ourselves, that's it okay to just start where you are, with what you have.
Your planner should be effective and efficient, not overwhelming or complicated. There are thousands of tools, devices, planner templets, pens, etc, etc; but until you are ready to be a spaceship, plan like a mousetrap.
